Though she may have played super-rich, uber-popular, Kelly Taylor on 90210, Jennie Garth admits that she was nothing like her on-screen alter ego when she was a teenager. Were you a good student?
I was an excellent student before I left school. But I graduated early so that I could work longer hours on 90210.

What was the worst popular trend when you were in school?
Spandex biker shorts. But wait, it gets worse! With tights under them and shiny Doc Martens with those big scrunchy socks. Paired with a tight top and a big, stretchy belt. I remember it vividly.

What’s the craziest thing you ever did to get a guy to notice you?
One time, my friend Rhonda and I stupidly went on the beach at night to meet the lifeguards. That’s something I never want my girls to do. Oh my God, we were lucky we didn’t end up dead!

What was your after-school job?
I worked as a secretary, a waitress and a dance teacher — all in high school. I taught three-year-olds how to tap dance. I think I was the only one with the patience to do it.

What clique were you in back then? Now?
I was a cheerleader for awhile but that was more in junior high. In high school, I was kind of a loner because I had moved to a new school. Then I had a boyfriend and all I cared about was my boyfriend. Now, I like to chat with the ladies and go for a glass of wine and gab. The chatty mommy clique!

Who was your idol back then? Now?
I loved Michael Jackson. I had Michael Jackson posters everywhere. I loved Mikhail Baryshnikov and Jessica Lange, also. At the time I didn’t know I was going to become an actress but I always loved her acting. Now, it’s hard to pinpoint one idol. I have a lot of respect for anyone who goes out there and puts their talent on the line. It’s hard to name one, though it’s probably still Jessica Lange as an actress.

What did you worry about back then?
If my hair was falling from all the hairspray! I wanted to make sure I had massive height. [Laughs] No, I’m not a worrier, but I probably worried about my father’s health.
